Shabby Chic Birthday Gift Set

Hello,

Today's project is something that I did back in early January but never posted due to the combined effect of travelling, laziness and a bunch of not so great pics. I finally decided to post it today because the guilt of not keeping up with my blog won.:-)

Back in December,I got an order all the way from the US from a guy who wanted to send a surprise gift for his close friend.Like most men,he had no idea what exactly he wanted. He just wanted pretty things and this is what my interpretation of pretty was. I made quite a few items. I sure hope she liked them.

First up is a box that I altered and a simple mini album that goes inside.

I used some gorgeous papers from the DCWV Mariposa collection. I love how the alphabets on the box look, if I say so myself.

Next up are an altered photo frame, a birthday card and an explosion box. I was in such a hurry to send out the parcel, that I forgot to take any decent picture of the inside of the box or of all the items in one pic.

Here is a not so great pic of all the three together

That's it.Hope ypu like the project.

See you soon,

Cheers

Tea Light holder Cards

Hello,

How are you all doing? Crafting much? The state of affairs on this end is sad. I talked about holiday hangover in my last post. Sadly, I am still not over it and kind of lost about what I want to do next. I have been catching up on your blogs and that's about all that I have done for the past week. While looking at Pamellia's latest post about her gift for her mom, I suddenly realized that I do have one forgotten project that I never posted. Her's is gorgeous! Do check it out.

I made some tea light holder cards for Diwali gifts before my vacation and never bothered to post. Now that I have nothing worthwhile to share, I have decided to share those here, even though they are not my best work and maybe make me cringe a little. These are super simple and in some cases boring too.:-).My excuse is that I was in a hurry and I am sticking to it.:-)

Here are some of them which were a bit passable.Others I refuse to share.:-).I made use of scrap papers, stickers and some stamping and heat embossing.

Here is how the inside looks for one of the cards

I had not added a tag or a pocket when I took the pictures.Ideally you need to have something on the left side to write your greeting /message.

Okay that's it.I hope I wake up from my slumber and do something creative today.Wish me luck.:-)

Case Study Anniversary Blog hop

Hello,

Case Study is has completed 4 years and to celebrate, they are holding a blog hop with a lot of awesome designers and beautiful projects. I am not much into blog hops but this is so much fun. Now that I am trying to polish my card making skills, this blog hop was truly inspirational.

I have been meaning to participate in the challenge that is hosted with the hop but I am so slow! I missed the last two, but this time I am determined to get my entry in time.

We were supposed to pick up one of the designer's project and CASE it. Well, I was so inspired ,that I could not stop at one.Let's say I am making up for being a slowpoke.:-)

My first card is inspired by Debbie Hughes.I fell in love with it the instant I saw it. Look how pretty it is!

Here is my card.Boy,I really did mess up the splattering. Will you laugh if I tell you that I made two cards exactly the same and messed up both of them with my horrible splattering. At least I was consistent in that.:-)

Sorry about the awful pictures. Not enough time to fix them.:-)

Since I had my watercolours out,I decided to also case Jocelyn Olson's card.

I liked the white die cuts against the rich watercolours.I heat embossed the whole panel with Wow silver pearl embossing powder. I love the subtle sheen that this powder provides.

That's it for today.Hope to see you soon.

Cheers

RIC#65

Hi,

I have been trying real hard to stick to my resolution of making more cards and participating in challenges.

This card is for the Runway Inspired challenge -Louis Vitton

I have basically taken inspiration from almost all the elements in the picture.:-).I used the color inspiration from her trousers and the lacy element from her shirt for the first panel .

There is a little bit of blue embellishing on her shirt,so I heat embossed a tiny tag and inked it with Broken China distress ink..If you look carefully, you can see some pink under her sheer top, which I incorporated in the form of the tiny hearts on the tag.

Her shoes are silver and that led to the strip of glitter cardstock peeking out from under my main panel and also the heat embossed sentiment.

It was pretty tough taking a picture of this card.Everything appears so washed out which annoyed me no end.:-)

That's it for today. Hope to see you real soon.

Cheers

Card for Mojo Monday #357

Hello,

How is the weekend going for you? I just plan to watch movies, read and enjoy the rains this weekend. How about you?

Mojo Monday challenge card

Remember how I mentioned that I plan to practice making more cards in my last post. Well, I am keeping to my resolution and this time the card is based on the wonderful sketch provided at the Mojo Monday Blog .

I have been sorting out my craft supplies and doing some much needed organization. I found quite a few die-cuts packs ,so I  decided to make a card using just those.

I am pretty happy with the card except a few boo-boos I made. See the bottom of the card? I accidentally used my sticky fingers while adhering the elements. Anybody know how to get rid of that ugly spot?

Also, I have a hard time understanding the various card styles. I don't much believe in labels, but just for my information, what would one call this type of card? I don't think it will qualify as CAS. What do you think? Do let me know.

Till then,

Cheers
Pallavi

In the mood for cards

Hello!

I realized recently that one of the areas where I severely lack practice and maybe even skills, is card making. I have to admit, I find making them overwhelming and maybe a bit scary. All the cutting , measuring, precise stamping etc. I does not help that I can never come up with designs without some guidelines.

The best way to get over my phobia is to just start doing it I guess. I figured that an even better way is to participate in challenges where you are already provided a framework to work with in the form of sketches. It was a light bulb moment for me and that's what I am going to attempt.

For this card,I used the sketch provided at the Cardabilities Sketch challenge.

I used modelling paste with a damask stencil from Prima for texture, various shades of Gelatos for colouring and a mixture of glitter and silver embossing powders.Love the sparkle that I got over the texture

I have also stamped over the background with white pigment ink,but due to low light conditions here, not much of it is seen.

The clock die cut is also stamped and heat embossed with Clear sparkle embossing powder

Card with texture and Faber Castell Gelatos

Hope you like this card.

Another card

Hello!

This is the second card I made for my DT post. This is my usual style of card. Flowers ,flourishes etc., but I did try something new here too. Pat on the back for that. :-)

So what is new, you ask (or maybe you don't)? See the panels on the left. That is new , new for me at least. I tried to create the look of old tarnished metal here.Does it look like that to you? I might be a teensy bit obsessed with metal! Again these are cell phone pics, so the tarnished/ aged part is not showing up well. but it does look like aged brass/gold.

I am also in love with the new embossing folder I got. Cheaper than some other folders and lovely.

Thanks for visiting. See you soon.

Mixed media card

Hello people,

I wanted to share a card that I made for my DT post at Crafters Corner .I made two cards. This card was not very popular, but secretly I really like this one more. It's grungy and shiny and glittery and textured. All things I like.:-)

Here it is.( Pictures do not do it justice especially when your camera betrays you and you have to use your cell phone for pics)

Ignore the stamping.I need to redo it.Looks absolutely crap.Pardon my French.;-)

I did the exact same thing for a project that I had done for a local swap here and I really liked it, so due to paucity of time and general blah feeling, I replicated the same thing for the card.

This is aluminium foil board embossed and then covered with Gesso and then coloured with alcohol inks. I saw this technique on youtube where you cover the foil with Gesso and then use alcohol inks and then use archival ink on top. Looks very cool.I skipped the Archival ink part because the result was too dark for my taste. I chose to highlight the raised portions with a white paint pen. I then used some heat embossing to add more texture.

Here is a closer look at the texture.I lovee it.

Hope somebody likes this project.Lol

Goodbye Shabby,Hello Vintage!

Hello,

Question for the few people who follow this blog. Are you fed up with all the pinks and the blues and the flowers already? If your answer is yes, then you might like today's project.:-)

This is my DT project for the June challenge for Crafter's Corner blog. The theme this time, is gift wrapping ideas/boxes/bags etc and you need to create a coordinating tag.We also had to use distress paints/stains and stencils. This is what I made.

It's a gift box which I learned how to make from a tutorial here.It was easy and fast to make. Now, you want to know where the tag is, right? Or maybe you don't.I will still tell you though.Remember my blog and all that stuff.

Here is the tag.Ta da!

The tag is the decoration for the box too and is attached to the belly band with a magnet. You can remove it and write whatever you want at the back and fix it back in.There's some stencilling on the box as well as the tag and distress stains in vintage photo and Antique Bronze on the tag.I tried layering this time which is a bit scary for me, but I think I managed okay. What do you think?

Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend.

Cheers

Sparkle and glitter

Hello

What is everybody up to? Surviving the heat well? I must say, I am a bit relieved with the weather here lately. At least it's breezy and not as suffocating as it was a couple of weeks back.

Now that the small talk is over, let's talk about the project I want to share.Another card, and this time I went for white and silver, inspired by the challenge at Itsy Bitsy.I had to will myself not to use any flowers or flourishes here.I did end up using some flowers, but thankfully they are flat.

For the base panel, I used some vellum and heat embossed it in Silver with a script stamp.Totally loving vellum! Need to buy more !I have used punches,Circle dies lace and pearls for the embellishments. The smallest heart is also heat embossed vellum.Again.I LOVE Vellum!

Here are a few more pics

I hope you like it.Your feedback is welcome.See you soon.

Experiments with my brand spanking new dies :-).

Hello,

How is everybody?I was planning to call this post DO or DIE,lol.I changed it at the last minute.Recently,I finally gave way to my temptation of buying a die cutting machine.Applause, Applause, Applause! After that, all I have been doing is just blowing away my money buying expensive dies.Hussena had warned me that once I start getting into die cutting,I won't be able to control myself from buying things and I was secretly gloating, saying that's not going to happen with me, complimenting myself on my self control etc.Ha! the joke is on me.Hussena, you were so right!lol

Anyhow,I tried a card and I made it for a post at Crafter's Corner blog to showcase the Edgeabilties dies. For details on what I used and how it was done, you can go here.

I know that the card doesn't look like anything special in the photo, but it looks quite pretty in real.I love the embossed vellum and the vellum diecuts.

Hope you like it too.

Cheers

Easel Card

Hello.

See how regular I am.Third post in a row.Heh heh.

Today,it's an Easel card.If you see too much blue in the past few posts, that is because I have been working on a set of things for a swap and the papers I chose were Prima Zephyr papers,so I have tried to keep everything in the same colour scheme. The swap involved an altered paper bag( which you can see here ), a card and an altered box.

Here is the card -

I have used an image from here .I have a heart doily and a scallop circle die cut behind the picture.I used some pink lace which was sent to me as a free goodie with a package by Priya of Color Conceptions store.I ruffled some lace and added some pearls to the bottom of the dress to give it some dimension. The banner is stamped, embossed and hand cut.

The flowers are all from Itsy Bitsy.

The chipboard rose is from my stash.I really don't remember which collection it is from.Could be Kaisercraft Tiger lily collection.

For the inside, I just layered two different sheets of coordinating paper, stuck a butterfly image from the net and called it done.I like this card.Bright and happy.Hope you like it too. Here are some more pictures as usual.Too bright in my opinion. It is very hot and sunny here nowadays.

Hope you like it.

Easter Card -Naughty Step Challenge Blog

Hello guys,

Today I wanted to share a card that I made for the March Challenge DT entry for The Naughty Step Challenge Blog .The challenge is Easter Bunny. All the DT members were provided with some image sheets which had to be used for their projects.I would have to be lying if I said that this was easy.I have never made an Easter card ad the image I chose was that of an egg! After much thinking this is what I came up with.(Today,I realized that I did not follow the theme of the challenge. There should have been an Easter bunny on my card!).Anyhow, this is what I made.

I have no clue why everything is looking crooked here.In reality its not.Yes,I checked.:-)

I hope you like this.If you would like to participate in the challenge, please head on over to the Naughty Step blog (link provided above). This month's prize is a CD and design sheets by Debbi Moore.

Hope to see you there.

Easel drawer card

Hello,

Today I want to share another card that I made recently. This was my attempt at making an easel card with a drawer.I should have followed a proper tutorial, but I was being lazy.so this is all sorts of wonky.Wouldn't say that it is the worst thing that I have made, but yes,in hindsight ,considering my non existent skills at measuring and figuring things out,I should have followed a tutorial.:-)

I used the Prima 'Welcome to Paris' collection. This was made on the request of my cousin who wanted to send a card to cheer her friend up and she was stuck on this particular collection. Now,I did not have anything Paris themed with me (no stamps,no diecuts, stickers etc),so I had to improvise for the embellishments.Flowers to the rescue!I have to tell you that my family members have been making fun of me from time to time due to my obsession with flowers and butterflies.I am trying to get away from these things, but how can you. They look so pretty!

Anyhow, stopping my ramble here. Here is the card.Hope you like it.Do not laugh at me.Flowers are Important!:-)

Valentine's Card

Hi

I want to share a card that I made recently. This was created for a challenge on myscraproom,ning.com.The requirement was to make a special kind of fold card.I really don't know what it's called.I think its called a three fold card, but I am not sure. The requirement was to use either Pink,Reds or Creams and use a doily, lace, flowers, pearls and a sentiment.Oh,and you also had to use book pages somewhere,This is my attempt for the challenge.

Red Overload (Picture Heavy!)

Hello!

I have been missing for so long! Well, actually that is nothing new here on my blog, but I have been missing because I have been busy with some projects. That's a good thing, right? I had participated in a couple of swaps this month and I was busy working on those.I will post all the projects in my subsequent posts. It takes so long for me to finish stuff, so I tend to ignore my blog.I don't know how people get so many things done so efficiently
.
Anyhow, I recently participated in a Secret Santa swap on myscraproom.ning.com.It's a lovely community of people who love to craft. They hold various swaps each month.Since I love Christmas, I loved the idea of being somebody's Secret Santa. It was a whole lot of fun.:-)

Today, I wanted to share a few handmade things I made for my partner. Her favourite colours are Reds and Green and Brown, so I made a few things for her. Here they are.

Here's the top of the box.Its painted in gold all over and the inside is also covered in paper.I forgot to take a picture if the inside of the box.:-)

And a look at the cards.I love the cards, if I say so myself. They were quick to make,so I made two!I love the paper and the image.I just used some silver glitter and some punching. The image is from Magic Moonlight Free Images.

Oh,before I forget! I also made an altered photo frame for my partner.I could not take a decent picture when I finished, so you probably can't see all the details.

I painted the frame using Fired Brick distress stain and then embossed the whole surface with a white embossing powder and a script stamp. The embossing is messy, since there was too much static and I don't have that tool which gets rid of that.I was trying to replicate the script design of the paper.

Hope you like this overdose of red.:-)

Birthday explosion box : Photo Heavy

Hello!

My husband had his birthday in July and I had made an explosion box for him as a surprise additional gift.Never got around to taking pictures till now. This was my first ever attempt at such a thing.Yeah, one of many firsts.:-)

I had started out with the idea of making a sophisticated, adult version of the box but you will see that it's nowhere close to it.It ended being a mish mash of everything. This is how it looks from the outside.Plain and simple.

This is how it looks when opened.

The center has a paper cake.:-).Not an original idea,I know.:-)

All the four flaps have a two page booklet and a pocket.I tried to include things that he liked, so each of the booklets have a pic he has taken of some birds on his nature photography tips. Now please don't ask me why I have pinks mixed with red.Remember, shortage of supplies drives me to do crazy things.:-)
You can stop here if you like.Go further at your own risk, unless you want to be overwhelmed with too many photos.

Pocket one has a tiny birthday card which in my opinion was messed up.I was trying embossing with a hairdryer and glitter etc. It's kind of grungy but passable I think.

The second pocket has a poem that I really liked and printed out and posted on decorated cardstock which was made to look like a scroll of sorts.

The third pocket has some coupons I made for him.I am very proud of that.I am technically challenged, so using MS word to make these was a new thing for me.They are all bent out of shape because the booklet is a bit too long.

Last pocket!Phew! For this I made a booklet with pockets and each pocket has some fun facts about birds.I couldn't help it.Birds are his passion.:-)

All flaps have a mini album of sorts with bird photos like I said.

Okay folks, that's it.You might wonder why I have put so many pictures here.Well, because this is my blog and I can.;-)

Kidding! It's because when I was making this, I was searching high and low for inspiration and though many many people have made beautiful things, there were often very few pictures.I am hoping this provides some ideas for souls like me who are not overly creative and might need some help.:-)

Cheers
